Honeybee is an important economic insect playing important roles in crops pollination and maintaining ecological balance. With gradual deterioration of the ecological environment, honeybees are vulnerable to parasites, pesticides, antibiotics, pathogenic microbes and other perils. As an important immune organ of honeybee, enteric duct plays an irreplaceable role in resisting exogenous stimulation and other aspects. As a part of the enteric duct, enteric duct microbial population (EDMP) has a vital important effect on the health of honeybees, it possesses highly conservative and special core microbial population mainly consists of nine major categories of bacteria. Recently studies on EDMP mainly focus on metabolism, immune defense, growth and development etc. EDMP not only could help the host to digest and produce nutrient, it could also maintain the energy stable state of the host internal body, and its protein metabolism also increases the abundance of EDMP. More and more evidences showed that the disturbance of EDMP could lead the damages of honeybee′s health, and the diversity of EDMP has great impact on the host′s health and diseases. Therefore, EDMP recently has become the focus of the area of scientific investigation in microbiology. This paper mainly summarized the makeup and the role of EDMP of bees, bumblebees and other major pollinators in their health and disease, and laid a foundation for further understanding the functions of EDMP of pollinators. |
